Introduction

Only 20 years after the opening of the industrial exploitation of the large stone banks south of Brussels, the renowned quarries of Belgian Bluestone, we find the first official business documents, anno 1921, which are proof of the fact that Van der Mijle is an established name in the natural stone branch.

The founding years of Van der Mijle lie even further back in the past. How far precise can’t be determined, due to the destruction of archives during the Great War. There is no doubt however that this was long before 1921. Due to the specific old guild structure of Stone Masonry in Holland, especially in Dordrecht, it is obvious that members of the family were already active as independent stonemason. Years later they proceeded to formal registration as a company.

Since then Van der Mijle became one of the largest natural stone producers in the Netherlands, now the only one left in Dordrecht.
